#13 Norm Nemrow

Norm Nemrow is a campus celebrity. It is vital you understand who he is before venturing onto campus grounds.

Norm Nemrow is wealthy, everyone knows he teaches at BYU for free. Everyone.

Norm Nemrow is cheesy.

Norm Nemrow was a mission president.

Norm Nemrow goes to Hawaii.

Norm Nemrow gives great speeches (often referred to as ‘talks’ in Mormon culture).

Norm Nemrow teaches Accounting.

Majoring in Business is what most BYU students do once they decide to drop out of pre-dental/pre-med/pre-MBA. Some students skip the pre-detour and move strictly to the major that will guarantee them millions of dollars in the future (they want to be wealthy like Norm). All of these business students must take Accounting 200. All Accounting 200 students watch hours of Norm Nemrow on CD (usually on fast forward—and the night before the exam deadline). Through this arduous process the entrepreneurial spirits grow to adore Norm, appreciating his quirks and style. When the students learn that Norm is wealthy they start to like him even more, and then when they discover that he served as a mission president they freak out. Smart, wealthy, and spiritual—does it get any better than that?!?!

So, just a heads up, when fellow students start talking about ‘Norm’ and how fantastic he is, just know he isn’t a student, he’s a professor.

Norm teaches for next to nothing because he gets a better break on his taxes that way. His wife told me.

Norm is the bomb. I even heard him swear in a live lecture once. I think it was on accident, but hilarious just the same.

Get your facts right, ACC students have to take quizzes all the time, that is why they are watching the videos. And your sentence, "Majoring in ‘Business’ is what most BYU students do once they decide to drop out of pre-dental/pre-med/pre-MBA." Makes no sense at all. Most business students become MBA's. You don't know what you are talking about.

Hahaha Public Relations students have to take Accounting 200 too, so I got to spend an entire semester with him too. He's super cheesy but that makes watching 2 hours of an accouting DVD a little bit more interesting. Also, he is LOADED. He retired in his 30's to play golf everyday, but his wife was sick of it so he know teaches.

Swear in a live lecture? Pfft . . . Norm was my mission president, I heard him swear across the chapel at zone conference. You think the lecture was funny?

For the record.....I am not as rich as you may think and taxes have nothing to do with my willingness to teach on a volunteer basis. That's motivated by a love for BYU and the Church. As far as the swearing thing goes, sometimes I might say that someone is going to hell but in my mind that isn't a swear word its simply a geographic location.

If that's really you that commented, rock on, Norm. I had Stice while you were still in Korea. Lots of respect, great class.

that is so funny that you mentioned this, because just today I saw a few posts on facebook about Norm's last live lecture and googled him to see what all the fuss was about. You know your stuff!

Norm is my hero! I chose my career after learning from him. 11 years later and 7.5 million dollars in apartments and townhomes it is paying off. In reading about Norm this is nothing compared to the success he had. Honestly, he is the most engaging speaker I have heard and I admire his service! Thanks Norm for your example!
